Stainless steel is not normally painted. Its natural resistance to corrosion by water and external agents, and the thin layer of chromium oxides formed spontaneously when the steel comes into contact with oxygen in the air or water, prevents the paint or chromium plating from adhering.
In the bathroom, however, the current trend is towards colourful taps and accessories. This is why we use innovative PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) technology to increase the lustre and hardness of stainless steel surfaces.
PVD technology also gives us new customisation possibilities with finishes in Light Gold, Black, Copper and Bronze, adding even more elegance to the profiles of our shower enclosures.
The PVD technology used to produce the finishes involves the evaporation deposition of thin, biocompatible films onto stainless steel to produce a bright, polished or brushed finish that is more scratch resistant, enhances the finish and increases resistance to acids, alkalis and solvents.
As with the Black finish, the biocompatible film is based on graphite and diamond powder, which increases the shine and hardness of the surface.
Whichever finish is chosen, the “self-repairing” property of stainless steel, i.e. its ability to autonomously rebuild the chromium oxide layer that makes it corrosion resistant, is not affected, so the colour finish remains unchanged if it suffers scratches or abrasions, even in areas that are not visible.
