How to properly measure your shower enclosure

Taking the measurements of the shower tray and evaluating the enclosure characteristics are essential to draw up a correct quotation and to enable the creation of a custom shower enclosure.

Sizes and customisations

By choosing a Calibe shower enclosure, you will get a unique, customised product built to perfectly fit your needs and the features of the enclosure and room in which it will be installed.

Each Calibe shower enclosure can be made differently, depending, for example, on

  • the type of shower tray, if flush with the floor - if installed on top or lowered;
  • the direction in which the door is opened;
  • how you choose to divide the total clearance between the door and the fixed part of the side of the enclosure with the opening.

This type of customisation helps define the quality of a shower enclosure and the ability of the people who build it. This is a real added value, which Calibe offers to its customers without affecting the cost of the product. This type of tailored customisations, in fact, are not listed as a supplement but are part of the Calibe value, a value that in many respects is to be considered unique on the market.

For this reason, in addition to taking some basic measurements, as explained below, it is useful to talk with the consultants available at Calibe authorised stores, explaining your needs and showing photos of the shower tray and the space surrounding it. At that stage it will be possible to evaluate which models best fit the space and the style of the bathroom, which customisations are advisable, if you need special profiles, custom shapes or custom-made corrector posts in case of sloping walls. At the same stage, accessories such as the hook or the towel holder can be considered. They are both made of stainless steel and placed directly on the glass, and are ideal for elegantly solving the need for a place to hang your towel or bathrobe, without hindering other bathroom walls.

Shower tray sizes

The measurements will be taken when the shower tray is installed and when the walls and covering are completed.

Measurements of the shower tray should be taken from wall to the external edge or from wall to wall in the case of niches. Measurements are required for all those sides that will require a enclosure wall, whether with a door or a fixed wall. In the case of a shower enclosure in a niche, therefore, the width of the door side may be sufficient, but if you want to opt for an opening to the inside, it will also be good to measure the depth. In any case, it is always important to point out any obstructions that may prevent the door from being opened either inwards (e.g. taps) or outwards (sanitary ware or other items of bathroom furniture).

In addition to the measurements, the type of shower tray must also be indicated:

  • shower tray installed on top of the floor
  • shower tray flush with the floor
  • lowered tray
  • direct floor mounting

Depending on the type, Calibe will adjust the size by a few millimetres to get the most functional and satisfying result.

The flatness of the shower tray must also be checked using a spirit level or a verification tool to check that the shower tray is level. For installations flush with the floor, ensure that the correct slope has been given inside the tray.

Wall verticality check

Are the masonry walls of the shower enclosure straight or sloping? Again, a spirit level or other verification tool will help you check the situation.

In the case of a shower enclosure in a niche, it is important to measure the width of the niche at different heights: at the base (shower tray), one metre and two metres above the ground, checking if the inclination is the same or different between the two walls if they are not perfectly vertical.

Custom height

The height of the shower enclosure can also be tailored to your needs, for example if you want to align the shower enclosure with the bathroom trim. So, consider this measure as useful to build your own customised shower enclosure as well.

Serving your needs: points of sale and service centres

Prior to the installation of the shower enclosure, you can take advantage of the measurement service that can be arranged at the point of sale or requested from one of the Calibe authorised service centres. This survey will ensure a perfect installation.
