Stainless steel for an elegant and durable finish

Acciaio Inox per cabine doccia di design

Solid, strong and resistant to deformation over time: stainless steel is at the very heart of our shower enclosures.

A choice that makes all the difference

Stainless steel is the only metal we use for our shower enclosures.

And why is that? Because it is three times more elastic than aluminium, yet is solid, tough and resistant over time. Because we use stainless steel, the tempered glass panels can be bordered by thin, elegant and perfectly sealed profiles, as well as hinges, handles, screws and all the other metal components that make up our shower enclosures.

We have chosen stainless steel as our only material, without combining it with other materials, partly because this prevents a second material from deteriorating before the stainless steel, thereby compromising the aesthetics and functionality of the entire shower enclosure.

A thin oxide layer: The key to its strength

Stainless steel is naturally resistant to corrosion thanks to the passivation principle: a thin, invisible layer of chromium oxide forms on contact with the air, protecting the metal from chlorine and other minerals in the water, as well as from the acid and alkaline solutions found in all household detergents.

Its "self-healing" property, i.e. its ability to rebuild the chromium oxide layer by itself, helps to maintain its beauty should it suffer scratches or abrasions, even in areas that are hidden from view. Aluminium alloys, on the other hand, do not offer the same protection against corrosion and are less effective against alkaline and acid solutions.

For all these reasons, and for its characteristics as listed below, we have chosen stainless steel.

Ductile and robust, it ensues a high level of hygiene

Micro-melted at 1600°C, bent under 200-tonne presses and polished in a process that combines nature, craftsmanship and industrial processes. Every shape we give stainless steel is a conquest.

In particular, polishing is the process by which we obtain a very low level of surface roughness. This is achieved by a series of treatments using abrasive paper to smooth the surface of the metal as finely as possible.

Thanks to this process, stainless steel is not only polished but also retains its properties over time, even if the surface is scratched: at the base of the scratch there will always be stainless steel, which continues to combine with the oxygen in the air to form the layer of chromium oxides that make it highly resistant to corrosion.

Stainless steel is therefore a ductile metal, but resistant to the most common uses. It always guarantees a high level of hygiene also because it is an inert material that does not emit substances harmful to man or the environment when in contact with air or water: it is suitable for extreme environmental conditions and finds its ideal habitat in the bathroom, the kitchen or the operating theatre.

The inspiration for our name (also) comes from steel

Our name is inspired by those who knew steel and worked it with great skill: The ancient Calibi, considered the inventors of steel and steel working. The Latin etymology of the name Excalibur, the legendary indestructible sword of King Arthur, comes from the name of this people.

Stainless steel has been used ever since in the construction, medical, shipping and kitchen sectors. It is one of the leading metals of the modern age and is the hallmark of our shower enclosures.
