Stainless steel profiles

A key difference between Calibe shower enclosures and many other shower enclosures available on the market is the exclusive use of stainless steel for the profiles and handles of the shower enclosure. Compared to other commonly used materials (whether metals, alloys or plastics), stainless steel is better suited to water contact and is more resistant to scratching and corrosion than other materials.

The qualities of stainless steel are maintained and even enhanced by the coloured PVD finishes, available on some of our most popular shower enclosures.

Cleaning and maintenance

Frequent light cleaning and a more thorough cleaning about once a month is recommended to keep the product looking good and to prolong its life. Regular maintenance includes rinsing and drying, which is essential to prevent limescale build-up.

What to use to clean your shower enclosure

We recommend the use of pH neutral detergents and, if necessary and only on stainless steel parts, diluted isopropyl alcohol or sodium carbonate. The latter is an environmentally friendly all-purpose cleaner. It contains no surfactants, phosphorus, dyes or perfumes.

Things to avoid when cleaning the shower enclosure

Do not use sanitising agents such as bleach, chlorides, ethylene oxide or non-ionic surfactants which may damage the surface of the products. Detergents based on chloric acid, hydrofluoric acid, phosphoric acid and muriatic acid should also be avoided. Stainless steel surfaces should not be exposed to fumes from acidic products (muriatic or and hydrochloric acid), sodium hypochlorite, bleach or ammonia-based products. We do not recommend the use of scourers, wire brushes, abrasive cleaners or powders that may cause micro-scratches on surfaces.

Restoring stainless steel

If stainless steel is damaged by micro-scratches, it can be restored by mechanical processing. Restoration is possible even in the unlikely event of rust stains caused by improper maintenance, such as leaving an aggressive detergent on the surface without rinsing, or allowing water with a high iron and manganese content to build up deposits over time or through prolonged contact with ferrous objects. We recommend that you contact a Calibe authorised service centre for this type of work to be carried out. This will ensure that the work is carried out professionally and economically.

Minimal plastic gaskets and silicone sealing

The parts of a shower enclosure that are most likely to collect dirt and age, and therefore to require regular replacement, are the plastic gaskets and the silicone sealing. For this reason, Calibe shower enclosures are designed to minimise or even eliminate them.

Only choices that prioritise durability

Every Calibe choice is made to ensure that a product remains beautiful and long-lasting. This is why we do not apply preventive anti-limescale treatment to the glass of our shower enclosures. This kind of treatment consists of applying a polymer to the glass panels, which makes it easier to clean when the shower enclosure is first used. But over time it tends to deteriorate and become patchy: you may see areas on the glass where the polymer is still present and others where it has become detached. The perishable nature of this polymer may not be a problem for a shower enclosure designed to last a few years, but it certainly does not fit in with Calibe's approach and its promise of a new forever shower enclosure.
